History

BAMBOO ORCHESTRA is not only the name of a music band, it is also the name of a musical movement, including musical creation in a totality, and wishing to go se beyond borders and musical styles.

Makoto Yabuki, created the BAMBOO ORCHESTRA in 1993 in Tokyo, Japan. It is in Marseille, cradle of cultures of the World, in the middle of the Mediterranean area, where he came to reconstruct his orchestra made of bamboo. In 1994,he settled on the place of the Friche La Belle de Mai thanks to the A.M.I : it is in this vast place with the proximity of the Anduze bamboo forest that the whole instruments take form.

During this adventure in Marseille, he met young percussionnists from the region who bring their personal influence thanks to their classical or traditional formation. Thus, in the Friche la Belle de Mai workshop, the BAMBOO ORCHESTRA continues its "little sonorous laboratory " : it invents , builds, experiments for each of its creations.

The natural and exceptional tones of bamboo, and also the themes lead musical compositions and contribute to the musical production's originality.

BAMBOO ORCHESTRA's sonorous creations reveal the sonorous wealth of original and traditional bamboo instruments. Musical compositions are directly inspired by natural sounds and particularly bamboo's ones, the basic sonorous element of this musical searching. VThe visual and spectacular aspect is one of this alive music's important elements.
