In 2015, La Friche la Belle de Mai and the French Institute [Institut Français] in Morocco joined forces to set up the Mediterranean Residency programme - Résidence Méditerranée. This initiative aims to welcome up-and-coming artists from Morocco to Marseille for several months to promote their work in the Mediterranean region. The residency at La Friche offers them tailor-made opportunities for research and creative work, and allows artists to develop their practice and discover or rediscover the French art scene. Public workshops, professional meetings (curators, art critics, and journalists) are put in place throughout the residency in order to create new opportunities for networking and artistic collaboration and ensure maximum exposure to work in progress.
Astérides supports young creative talent in contemporary art through their residency programme over a period of six months.
Every artist is alloted a work space of 90m2 at La Friche la Belle de Mai, a grant to cover living expenses and technical and critical expertise throughout the residency. Astérides is also dedicated to promoting artists to as broad a public a possible through visits, professional meetings and studio open days.
The artists in residence are selected by a jury following a call for applications which takes place twice a year.
Triangle France supports up-and-coming artists, and those with scant representation in France, with the development, production and distribution of projects which represent new stages in their work.
The residency programme is at the heart of Triangle France's work and welcomes 9 – 12 artists a year to Marseille from France and abroad. The programme also gives young artists from France the opportunity to travel overseas via the network of partnership organisations.
Their programme aims to accompany artists' projects – whether they are in the early stages of conception or work in progress – whilst giving the public access to their artistic research and opportunities to debate current issues the art world.
The Théâtre Massalia (theatre for youth audiences) provides companies a fully-equipped work space, lodgings at the Friche or in the centre of Marseille. They pay their expenses and provide generous funding for research and work in progress. If the companies so wish, The Théâtre Massalia supports a visit during their residency by inviting either a class and / or professionals.
Linked to the artistic ethos of the festival - Les Rencontres à l'échelle - Les Bancs Publics offers residencies for research and production.
For a period of 3 – 6 weeks, international residences are offered for a variety of disciplines – theatre, dance and performance. Some projects are supported through co-production. The artistic teams are housed on site at La Friche and have access to technical expertise on offer there. Throughout rehearsals meetings with the public and professionals are organised, depending on the nuances of each project.
