The Performing Arts Hub

The Performing Arts Hub is a creative centre that allows professionals in the region to experiment with innovative methods of working, with an emphasis on collaboration, co-operation and pooling resources. It was piloted and is backed by la Friche la Belle de Mai.

What is the Performing Arts Hub

The Performing Arts Hub is a potential co-producer, prioritising active financial participation in order to enhance the resources granted to the artistic aspects of the project they are involved in. The Artistic and Technical Committee at the Hub assesses the nature of the project and evaluates how realistic the existing funds are before deciding whether to commit to co-producing.

Up to 31/12/2016, The Artistic and Technical Committee had five members: Nathalie Anton and starting from January 1st 2017 Liliane Schaus, François Cervantes, Sylvie Gerbault, Emilie Robert and Paul Rondin. The chair is Alain Arnaudet; Lætitia Padovani, Committee delegate, ensures the smooth running and organisation of the Committee.

Who can the committee work with?

At least two partners should be working together before proposing a creative project (or re-starting a project), and have a solid foundation of skills and sufficient resources to ensure satisfactory completion of the project's initial phases. They then look for one or more partners to bolster production funds and guarantee significant commercial potential. They can approach the Performing Arts Hub as a co-producer, able to offer financial support to complement existing funds particularly with regard to the overall artistic staff salaries.

What are the criteria?

Over and above the inherent artistic  merits of the project , there should be significant, balanced complimentarity in terms of the planning and industry input of the initial partners, in order for them to assess their actual involvement. The project must also be directly linked to the region.

Conditions of Partnership

How?
The two partners approaching the Hub should send in a written overview of the project written by both the artistic director of the show and the chief co-producer*, outlining the artistic style and thrust of the project.
* the chief co-producer is the primary partner co-producing the proposal presented to the Performing Arts Hub : the project manager in charge of the financing and challenges of the project, is best-equipped to promote it to potential sponsors including the Hub.

This overview should also describe the projected costing, including the various sums guaranteed by established sponsors and outline the time frame for the different stages of the project: preparation, rehearsals, and projected returns. This initial presentation should be supported by two tables outlining projected production figures (table 1&2), and a third table evaluating project costs and potential supplementary expenses that would increase the production costs.

The layout of these tables facilitates the identification and analysis of the crucial factors of co-producing the project: artistic and staff waging costs, the respective input of the sponsors. The details of the income and expenditure items and expenses should be presented on an indicative basis. The presentation of the provisional budget for the project (and initial returns) should be presented in the tables (and any superfluous rows should be deleted). If the project outline has already been written up, do submit it to ensure a thorough presentation of the artistic project.

When?
In order to be able to play an active role in the project's development as early as possible, defined and preliminary funds and partners found. A project manager and the likelihood of an initial, provisional, or potential presentation should be outlined.

Organisation
A delegate from the Hub will receive the proposals and assess the validity of their framework (deadlines, written outline, budget tables, all the factors required for the presentation of the project) before submitting them to the the Committee . They meet regularly to evaluate formalised projects and to determine their artistic merits and whether or not to engage in a dialogue with candidates who have submitted projects.
