Publishing - Producer / Broadcaster
La Marelle is a creative residence facility, but also a permanent feature on the literary scene at la Friche and beyond its walls.
The Marelle Project
La Marelle, is a literary project supported by ADAAL (Association Des Auteurs Aux Lecteurs/ Association of Authors and Readers) which is based at the Villa de la Friche alongside the publishers Le Bec en l'air. Marelle's objectives are to encourage meetings between authors and readers and promote literary creativity and writers' readings. It designs and organises meetings, debates and literary events alongside other cultural practices in Marseille and elsewhere. It produces and broadcasts meetings, readings and original work, in writing, audiovisually, on radio and online.
Today, La Marelle is a veritable ‘Authors' Villa' able to accommodate authors in residence for different lengths of time. It invites them to imagine how to link their writing project to other artistic disciplines represented, or not, at la Friche.
This Villa is open to all authors' projects. It is the author who shapes artistic writing residencies, regardless of the form or approach of their work. Whether the authors write novels, poetry, plays, for radio, on photography or on digital media, authors at the Villa integrate their proposals with as many artistic activities and events as possible on offer at La Friche.
Residencies are awarded on the basis of the authors' projects and every resident is invited to invent the nature of their residency, linking their writing project as they see fit to their surroundings: La Friche itself, the cultural organisations in Marseille and the Region and the resources and texts provided. La Marelle is a place for meetings, experiments, cross-fertilisation and brainstorming.
Other Types of Residencies
La Marelle also welcomes:
- publishing residencies, to implement a project be it in the preparatory phase, or final stages, requiring time and space to bring together different parties for a publishing project (publisher, writer or photographer etc.)
- mixed residencies: two authors on simultaneous or overlapping residencies– a writer and fine artist working on a book project together ; a foreign writer and their translator, etc.
