Cultural Experiments and Contemporary Creations
Visual Arts - Producer / Broadcaster - Theatre - Danse
An annual, international, multi-disciplinary event .
For the last ten years, les Rencontres à l'échelle has presented a multi-disciplinary programme combining dance, theatre, performances, lectures, exhibitions and concerts. They are committed to discovering artistic approaches linked to identity and migration and heritage. Alongside the performances there are discussions and public debates to discuss these issues in depth.
Formed in Marseille, they strive to show representations, notably of the Arab world, which go beyond media stereotypes, and, more broadly, shows about the migration and movement of people shaping the face of globalisation. They put particular emphasis on the extraordinary otherness of live performance.
With the objective of supporting up-coming artists and put on shows from overseas in France and Europe that might otherwise never be seen, they are sensitive to translation and subtitling issues. They also aim to be a platform which is accessible and attractive to programmers.
With the Audience
Centred on contemporary, experimental new work and innovative writing for the stage, the project is committed to engaging in dialogue with the local community. Les Bancs Publics ensures their programme is as accessible as possible to a wide audience, particularly for people who may not spontaneously go to cultural venues. They offer mediation sessions for cultural discovery, meeting and talking with artists. All through the year, they organise cultural initiatives in the city: interactive projects, creative initiatives with both professionals and amateurs.
Before la Friche
The association Les Bancs Publics set up and refurbished two new facilities in the Belle de Mai neighbourhood from 1998 - 2015 before becoming residents at la Friche in June 2015.
