The Gyptis

A stone's throw from the Friche at the heart of the Belle de Mai area is the Gyptis cinema, a one-screen cinema that seats 170 people.

The programme, selected by Shellac, a distributor and producer based in la Friche, is based around themes (To work!, Return of the Beat, Not even scared!, and many more) peppered with events (conferences, meetings, small stage productions, previews and special screenings) and all that from Tuesday to Sunday!
From auteur films to blockbusters, classics to children's films (making up a third of the screenings) the programme at the Gyptis is accessible to all: young and old, cinephiles and curious youngsters.

Did you know?
The Gyptis started life as a cinema in 1913, then became a theatre, home to the Chatôt-Vouyoucas company. In 2013, following the departure of the company, the Friche la Belle de Mai Theatre stepped in to restore the Gyptis to its former glory as a cinema. The venue was restored with support from the PACA Region and the CNC and re-opened its doors in 2014.
